IntrIn the world of fashion, new trends emerge and capture our attention, bringing a fresh twist to traditional attire. One such trend that has gained immense popularity is the backless kurta. With its elegant and sensual appeal, the backless kurta allows you to showcase your back in a stylish and alluring manner. Whether you're attending a casual gathering or a formal event, wearing a backless kurta can instantly elevate your outfit and make you the center of attention. In this article, we will explore the definition, significance, growing popularity, style variations, fabric choices, styling options, and tips for wearing backless kurtas with confidence.
Definition and significance of backless kurtas:
A backless kurta is a garment that features an open back design, revealing a portion or the entire back area. It adds a touch of sensuality and allure to an outfit while maintaining an overall elegant and classy look. The significance of backless kurtas lies in their ability to create a captivating visual impact and highlight the beauty of the wearer's back. They provide a unique and refreshing alternative to traditional kurta designs, allowing individuals to experiment with their style and make a bold fashion statement.
Growing popularity of backless kurtas in fashion trends:
In recent years, backless kurtas have experienced a surge in popularity within the fashion industry. Fashion-conscious individuals are embracing the trend and incorporating backless kurtas into their wardrobes. The allure of this garment lies in its ability to strike a perfect balance between modesty and sensuality. By revealing the back while keeping the front of the kurta relatively modest, backless kurtas create a captivating and eye-catching look that appeals to a wide range of individuals.
Transition from traditional to trendy:
Backless kurtas in skirt top sets: While backless kurtas were initially associated with traditional Indian attire, they have now transcended boundaries and evolved into a trendy and versatile garment. One popular way to wear backless kurtas is by pairing them with skirts, creating a stylish and contemporary look. Skirt top sets featuring backless kurtas have gained momentum in recent years, providing individuals with a fusion of traditional and modern elements. This transition has allowed backless kurtas to become a staple in both traditional and Western-inspired outfits, making them suitable for various occasions.
Embracing the Backless Kurtas Trend:
To embrace the backless kurtas trend, it's essential to explore the various style and design options available. From intricate back designs to cutout patterns and shapes, backless kurtas offer a wide range of choices to suit individual preferences and occasions.
Intricate back designs:
One of the key elements that make backless kurtas stand out is the intricate back designs. These designs can range from delicate and feminine to bold and artistic. Embroidery, beadwork, sequins, and mirror work are commonly used to enhance the beauty of the backless kurta. These intricate designs add an element of luxury and make the backless kurta a statement piece in itself.
Cutout patterns and shapes:
Backless kurtas come in various cutout patterns and shapes, allowing individuals to choose the style that best complements their body type and personal taste. Some popular options include V-shaped, U-shaped, heart-shaped, crisscross, and keyhole cutouts. These patterns create visually appealing and flattering looks while maintaining the elegance of the garment.
Embellishments and embroidery:
Embellishments and embroidery play a significant role in enhancing the overall look of a backless kurta. These elements can be strategically placed around the back area, adding glamour and sophistication. Intricate thread work, zari, stone embellishments, or even a simple lace border can transform a plain backless kurta into a stunning and captivating piece.
Fabrics suitable for backless kurtas:
Choosing the right fabric is crucial when it comes to backless kurtas. The fabric should not only provide comfort but also accentuate the design and flow of the garment. Here are some fabric options that work well for backless kurtas:
Lightweight and breathable materials:
Opt for lightweight and breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, and chiffon for a comfortable and airy feel. These fabrics allow air circulation and prevent discomfort, making them ideal for warm weather or outdoor events.
Sheer fabrics for a sensual appeal:
For a more sensual appeal, sheer fabrics like georgette, net, and organza can be used to create a translucent effect. These fabrics add a touch of elegance and mystique, enhancing the overall allure of the backless kurta.
Blends of comfort and elegance:
Silk, satin, and velvet are luxurious fabric options that exude elegance and sophistication. While these fabrics may be heavier, they drape well and create a regal look. Blending these fabrics with lighter materials can strike a perfect balance between comfort and opulence.
Versatility in pairing backless kurtas:
Backless kurtas offer endless possibilities when it comes to pairing them with other garments. However, one trend that has gained significant traction is the combination of backless kurtas with skirts in skirt top sets.
Skirt top sets: An emerging trend:
Skirt top sets featuring backless kurtas have become an emerging trend, offering a fusion of traditional and contemporary styles. These sets provide a cohesive and fashionable look, eliminating the need to search for separate pieces that match. They can be worn for both casual and formal occasions, depending on the choice of fabric, design, and accessories.
Styling options with different types of skirts:
When it comes to styling backless kurtas with skirts, various skirt options can be considered. Long flowy skirts, pencil skirts, A-line skirts, and lehenga skirts all pair well with backless kurtas, creating different aesthetics and vibes. Experimenting with different skirt lengths, colors, and patterns allows for versatility and individual expression.
Accessorizing to enhance the backless look:
Accessorizing plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall impact of a backless kurta. By choosing the right accessories, you can further accentuate the beauty of your back and complete your look.
Flaunting Your Back with Confidence:
Wearing a backless kurta requires a certain level of confidence and comfort in showcasing your back. Here are some tips to help you feel confident and carry off a backless kurta with grace.
Preparing your back for a backless kurta:
Prior to wearing a backless kurta, it's essential to take care of your back's appearance. Skincare and exfoliation can help maintain a smooth and glowing back.
Back exercises for a toned appearance:
Engaging in exercises that target the back muscles can help create a toned and sculpted look. Incorporate exercises like back stretches, rows, and pull-ups into your fitness routine to improve posture and enhance the appearance of your back.
Posture and confidence:
Carrying off a backless kurta: Maintaining good posture is key to carrying off a backless kurta with confidence. Stand tall, keep your shoulders back, and walk with poise. Good posture not only highlights the beauty of the backless design but also boosts your self-assurance.
Enhancing self-assurance through body language:
Body language plays a significant role in how confident and comfortable you feel in a backless kurta. Stand tall, make eye contact, and maintain a positive and open demeanor. Embracing your unique beauty and expressing self-assurance through your body language will radiate confidence and make you feel empowered while flaunting your back in a backless kurta.
Tips for wearing backless kurtas with comfort:
While backless kurtas are undoubtedly stylish, it's important to ensure comfort while wearing them. Here are some tips to make your backless kurta experience more comfortable:
Choosing the right bra or adhesive solutions:
Selecting the appropriate undergarments is crucial when wearing a backless kurta. You can opt for a strapless bra or explore adhesive solutions like silicone bras, stick-on cups, or adhesive tapes that provide support without compromising the backless look.
Layering options for added support:
If you prefer additional support, you can layer your backless kurta with a sheer cape, jacket, or shrug that complements the outfit. This not only adds an extra element to your look but also provides some coverage and support to your back.
Ensuring proper fitting and adjustments:
To ensure a comfortable fit, it's important to choose a backless kurta that fits you well. Pay attention to the shoulder and bust area to ensure that the kurta sits properly on your back without slipping or causing discomfort. Additionally, consider adjustable straps or tie-back designs that allow you to customize the fit according to your comfort level.
Occasions and Events for Backless Kurtas:
Backless kurtas can be worn for various occasions, depending on the style, fabric, and embellishments. Here are some occasions where backless kurtas can make a stunning fashion statement:
Casual and daytime events:
For casual outings, brunches, or shopping trips, opt for lightweight and comfortable backless kurtas paired with denim or cotton skirts. These combinations create a chic and effortless daytime look.
Beach trips and resort wear:
Backless kurtas in sheer fabrics like chiffon or georgette are perfect for beach trips or resort wear. Pair them with flowy skirts, shorts, or even swimwear for a glamorous and breezy beachside look.
Evening and party wear:
Backless kurtas in luxurious fabrics like silk or velvet, adorned with intricate embroidery or embellishments, are ideal for evening events and parties. Style them with statement skirts or wide-leg trousers for an elegant and glamorous ensemble.
Cocktail parties and social events:
Make a statement at cocktail parties or social gatherings with a backless kurta in a bold color or unique design. Pair it with a fitted skirt or tailored trousers to create a sophisticated and fashion-forward look.
Weddings and festive occasions:
Backless kurtas can be a showstopper at weddings and festive celebrations. Opt for rich fabrics like silk or brocade, embellished with intricate details, and pair them with voluminous skirts or lehengas to create a regal and traditional ensemble.
Formal and professional settings:
While backless kurtas are generally considered more suitable for casual or festive occasions, they can be styled appropriately for formal and professional settings as well. Choose backless kurtas in solid colors, clean cuts, and subtle designs, and pair them with tailored trousers or pencil skirts for a sophisticated and modern office look.

Remember that Angel in a dress pic I uploaded ages ago??
Well, your question there about whether her dress was inspired by Indian clothing got me Thinking™, and I want to do an actual design for her for Eclipsed that pulls inspiration from that more deliberately.
I'm planning to pull some inspiration both from Indian clothing and from Native American clothing, since both were in the back of my mind when I originally drew that, but I want it to actually be more intentional and deliberate this time around.
Do you have any recommendations on what elements to borrow, or what/where I should look to for reference? (Cuz google can be... ahem, unreliable, if I don't give it just the right terms. ChatGPT is marginally better, but still). Really any advice on the subject, since I'm much less familiar with it and I don't have a great grasp for filtering out good vs bad references.
(Also, please bonk me if this comes across as rude or inappropriate, I was...not sure how to phrase this.)
Okay so since I'm Desi, I'm going to talk about East Indian wear. But for Native American stuff... that's a tiny bit iffy I believe, as there are many groups and... Well... I'm not well versed in it so I'll allow any indigenous peeps here to chime in with advice.
Okay so first thing first, types of Indian clothes.
There's the most common ones: Saris!
They're basically a really long cloth that is wrapped around the body. They're usually a lot of different styles, and the most common way to wear them is to wrap them around the waist, then drape one end over the shoulder. They also come in a lot of colours too!
They are also worn with a blouse, and may have mirrors and embroidered patterns on them.
Also red or pink saris are used for weddings... so please keep that in mind.
Next up, Salwar Kameez
These are basically a combination of several clothing articles. Comprising of the salwar (pants), kurta (blouse) and sometimes dupatta (Basically a scarf or shawl).
Salwars tend to be baggy. The Churidaar, however, is fitted. Both are used for casual wear I believe.
There are others, but these are the ones I'm most familiar with (Plus I assume that you might want traditional Feminine wear... so for more references to basic types of clothing, here's the Wiki page)
So for our favourite Angel here, we could use a sari, as the blouse can be backless, which we could easily incorporate the wings here! Plus it seems pretty easy for a starfolk with a large halo and wings to put on and off. Plus, many of the fancier Indian wear tend to have mirrors (AKA little gems of sorts) and embroidery attached to them.
Indian embroidery styles tend to vary a LOT, and can be extremely complex too. The basic pattern seems to be a lot of dots, squares and triangles, with combination and such being very common.
Hope this was helpful, although this might be worded weirdly. It was really fun to look at cultural stuff in a new light in all honesty.

Most Popular Kurti Neck Design In 2021
Is it just me, or have you also experienced that we know exactly what size and shape we need but get confused about the neckline whenever we get our outfit stitched? This happens to me all the time and I end up selecting round or V-neckline because they are safe and because I don’t know any other design. To protect me from this confusion/ embarrassment, I searched Google and cursed the engines. The problem was sought when I finally got helped from a professional fashion designer who helped me with a perfect neckline that can accentuate the entire style statement. Check out the top 10 most popular Kurti neck designs in 2021 for the next time you want to get an outfit stitched.
SIMPLE NECK DESIGNS
Simple neck designs look beautiful and are a safe option that compliments every Kurti pattern.
BOAT NECK KURTA DESIGN
As the name suggests, the kurta neck is shaped like a boat. The design does look like U; however, the cut is relatively more minor, which will make your shoulder look wider than they are. This design works well for every woman, no matter what her size and shape. Women who have tiny busts can easily pull this off. There is no harm in experimenting, but it is observed that the neckline doesn’t go well for broad-shouldered and short-necked ladies.
SCOOP NECKLINE KURTA DESIGN
This design looks kind of similar to the boat neck design, and it is. The only difference is that the u-shape here is a little deep and the cut curve and features have a large width. It works well for ladies who have narrow shoulders, long necks, and tiny busts. As the kurta offers a slimming effect, anyone with a skinny body and narrow face must avoid it.
SWEETHEART NECK KURTA DESIGN
The neckline has derived its name due to the fact that it looks somewhat like a heart. This outfit neck design actually suits every woman regardless of the size, shape, and body type. It offers a curvaceous effect to ladies who have small bust lines as it provides that much-needed volume.
SQUARE NECK DESIGNS FOR KURTIS
This Kurti neck design has a hidden attribute that tends to provide a short neck and narrow shoulders facade. Anyone that has a square face is suggested to not go for the design as it will look subdued. The design works ideally for people with pear-shaped bodies. Also, if you get a square neckline kurta tailored, style it with palazzo pants.
V-NECK DESIGN FOR KURTIS
This design features a V-shape and has two distinctions — plunging V and standard V. The only difference between these neck designs is the length and depth of its neckline. Plunging V is comparatively deep and therefore gives a voluptuous look and suits people with a small neck. The standard V neckline is of a considerable length and goes well for people with both small and large bust people. However, if you have a long face, we suggest that you try some other design.
KEYHOLE AND SIDE KEYHOLE KURTA NECK DESIGN
The keyhole and side keyhole forms a similar pattern. It has a keyhole cut near the collarbone or center of the chest. It is a unique style that can enhance your personality and adds shine to your entire outfit. So if you have a simple Kurti, get your tailor to create this design, and we are sure it will look perfect. It is an ideal choice for people who have tender necks and broad shoulders.
COWL KURTI NECK DESIGN
Cowl design has been in the trend for years, but it could only be seen in sweaters. After seeing the popularity of the neck design, it has made its way into Kurti’s neckline as well. It might be the first time you hear the name of it, but we are sure you would have seen it. This design has an extra fabric draped around its neck, which on both sides is stitched to your dress. The cowl doesn’t look awkward; rather, it provides a scarf resemblance that looks highly fashionable. It looks beautiful for women with a larger bust as the drape designing covers the figure. Moreover, it also suits women with petite bodies.
COLLAR NECK DESIGN
We have all seen collar designs in skirts, jackets, and even t-shirts, but now the trend has extended its branches even in kurtas, and it has become vogue in days. The neckline gives a very refined image to the personality and works well for people that are on the heavier side. Most people who get collared Kurtis designed wear it with Patiala and Dhoti salwar. However, we feel that if you style this Kurti with jeans to your office, it will look elevating, and you will catch a lot of appreciating eyes.
HALTER NECK KURTA DESIGN
Halter neck is an elegant design that accentuates your shoulders. This is one of the favorite designs for millennial girls as it provides you the autonomy wherein you can select how you wish to cover your back if you want to cover it or stitch it with a backless style fully. If you are wearing a halter neck Kurti, let go of the dupatta as it will steal the thunder. We suggest that you tie your hair up and pair elegant earrings to showcase the entire design. There is a chance that it might not look good on people with broad shoulders but don’t refrain from wearing it.
PETER PAN KURTI NECK DESIGN
This design is definitely going to rock its way in 2021. It has such a beautiful and delicate petite image to itself that one can’t avoid it. The design features a flapped flat collar type design on the front with either thread or button detailing in the middle. This design is perfect for someone who wishes to design a long Kurti. You can altogether avoid wearing any jewelry with this outfit. It is a must-have design in your wardrobe.
HIGH NECK KURTI DESIGN
High neck Kurti design has been highly trendy as it provides the perfect blend of chicness and sophistication. It adds a western and formal touch for attending an official meeting or official get-together. If you design your neckline in this design, we suggest that you get your tailor slit up the waistline and wear it with tight jeggings or jeans.
ANGRAKHA KURTI NECK DESIGN
Another incredibly gorgeous design of the decade is the Angrakha neck. The kurta features an overlapping drape neckline with asymmetrical V-neckline. For ensuring that you get the most out of this design, we suggest that you use two colored/pattern fabrics as it will elevate your fashion quotient. This can be a perfect style for college girls or women who like to keep it simple yet trendy. If you have a heavy bust, we suggest that you avoid going for the design as the fitting might not be comfortable.
ASYMMETRIC NECKLINE KURTA DESIGN
People find asymmetrical necklines extremely fascinating nowadays, undoubtedly because of their unique design cuts. The design might look extremely simple and novel, but it owns the power to accentuate your fashion quotient to the sky effortlessly. You can design this neckline with different variations and combinations, such as button work embroidery and patchwork. The autonomy of selecting a mixed match design might be extremely attractive but remember not to overdo it. Consider your bust side and then decide how you wish to style it and ensure that the design resonates with the fabric material you are selecting.
If you found these neck designs fascinating and wish to buy Kurti or Kurti sets in attractive and vogue designs, visit the Priya Chaudhary label. This online store has one of the best designer ethnic collections for ladies who like to keep it subtle but with a captivating spark. All the products available at this store are made using the most delicate material and intrigued designs that you will love each time you see them.

Wedding Bells, Part Two (Steve Rogers x Desi!Reader)
A/N: first of all, thank you for your patience. Second, no, this isn’t the finale, we still have another part to go because there’s too much bloody content. Third, as always, translations next to the sentences and some references and other stuff in the glossary. I stole the mattress line from my darling @nasarogers xoxo
Taglist: @marvelrose @songforhema @chillingbucky @messy-random-bitch @officially-tonynat-shrine @thebookwormslytherin
"So Steve was stabbed?" "Well, he didn't have his vibranium frisbee of death to defend himself with; besides my cousin stitched him up and he healed within, like 4 hours." Natasha sighed. YN turned around from the mirror she was admiring her sangeet* outfit in, looking at her. "Nat? You okay?" "Yes. It's the jet lag, I suppose." "That and the threat of the world ending, I'm guessing?" "It does seem strange; that you have a whole family of people here who are unaware of what their daughter does or how close she came to death the day of the engagement." "Even when I was in the military; many of them didn't know too. It's been tradition with me, I guess." "So, like, how hard is it to become an agent there?" Pinky frowned at the mirror while she met YN's eyes. "Do they swear you to loyalty to the US? Do you give up all your rights? Ooh, do they burn your fingertips off?" Natasha scoffed while YN rolled her eyes. Even of the kid seemed like a zombie, what with studying continuously and also somehow dancing the whole day, she still had her sense of humor. "I got in on a recommendation and because I knew Sam thanks to a training exercise we once had. And no, we still have our fingertips attached. Don't know about the Widow though." "I can see where Pinky gets her humor from, YN."
~
The sangeet was a whole 2 weeks after the engagement. To most, it would seem like a very short one, but Rahul and his fiancee were both almost always separate, him working in Dubai while she worked in London. They wanted to get married as quick as possible, and considering how out of place she strangely felt here, YN agreed the marriage should be quick. "So what, you just...dance?" "Yep." "Is it a competition, then?" "Technically, no, but then again we love a bit of fun. Besides if we have you and Bucky we're pretty much guaranteed to win." "What's my prize then?" Bucky plopped down next to YN and Natasha who stood talking and snacking on some Ladoos* Pinky had snagged for them. Bucky snatched two, munching on one and holding the other out of Natasha's hands, who frowned at him. "Bragging rights." "Good enough." Somehow he'd adapted 10 times as fast as anyone, roaming around in a kurta* he snagged from Rahul (who immediately recognised him and nearly collapsed at the number of celebrities that were attending his wedding), lifting gas cylinders as easy as babies and generally having the time of his life. Nearly all of YN's female cousins (and a few of the male ones) were eyeing him like candy and the aunties were ready to mount him on a horse then and there*. Sunita chachi glared at YN sitting and eating when there was so much to be done and immediately beamed at Bucky getting up and nearly snatching the boxes of sweets out of her daughter's hands. "It's his first vacation in 2 years, and his first in Asia." "I think it's more of a move; yesterday he got drunk with Sukhdev chacha* who told him some kargil stories and he swore never to go back." "How many generations of your family have gone to the military?" Nat inquired. "Honestly, I've lost count." "And you're the self described "black sheep" why?" "Well I left a great job to work in another country and now even my boyfriend isn't Indian. I'm this close to being kicked out of the will." Nat smiled at how easily YN said boyfriend without stuttering or thinking. YN narrowed her eyes at her. "Are you psycho analysing me, widow?" "Nope, been there, done that." ~ YN looked up from her report to see a few kids running around. None of the aunties, thank God, otherwise there would be another lecture about 'doing work in a family function; no respect for culture' et al. She looked down again and immediately whipped her head back up. Snatching her phone, she called up Sam. "Who brought the kid? I thought he was an intern!" "Well, he, ah, snuck...in? He's very good at that apparently? We didn't know until we were halfway over the Pacific Ocean. And, well, I shouldn’t be telling you this but he’s Spiderman. Terrible at hiding his identity, how have you lot not discovered yet?" "Where the hell are you?" "One of your relatives dragged Steve and me to...God I don't even fuckin' know where. I'm sleepy." "Nap in the car." "You know I get car sick." "You fly around in metal wings all day and the one place you have motion sickness is in a CAR?" you shout whispered and dissolved into giggles. "Not now, woman. Oh, by the way, your boyfriend's being interrogated by your family." "Poor thing. I'm not rescuing him, though. I still have a dozen pages left of this thing." ~ "Iss bachhe ko khone mat dena, Pinky. Iron man ka beta hai." (Don't let the child get lost, he's Iron Man's son) "Bachha toh woh hai nahi kisi angle se. Shobhit bola Sunita Chachi ki scooty phas gayi thi, almost utha li poori isne nikalte hue." (he’s not a kid from any angle. Shobhit said Aunt Sunita’s scooter was stuck, he almost lifted the whole thing taking it out.) Pinky remarked, cutting a tiny piece of the cucumber she was peeling and rubbing it against the rest. "Kadvahat chali jayegi, aapki jaati hai na jaise jiju ko dekh kar." (The bitterness will go, like yours goes after you see jija) (this actually works, btw, cut off a tiny piece and rub it against the rest of the cucumber and it isn’t bitter anymore) "Chup kar ja." (“shut up”) "Any luck with the gas?" "Another agent, who managed to infiltrate found traces of chloroform there. They're claiming it's for industrial purposes. How is that poisonous?" "Well once it reacts with sunlight, chloroform forms...what was it called? It was a question in the NEET! Something with a P, or a F?" "Phosgene." The kid answered, who'd clearly sneaked up to them while they hadn't noticed. Pinky frowned at him. "Haan, phosgene. It's been used in chemical warfare too. Drop a chloroform bomb, it'll react with sunlight and boom, carcinogenic gas that's pretty toxic." "It caused 85,000 deaths in world war 1." Peter added, not even glancing at Pinky who was glaring at him like he was a fresh piece of meat. "Dara mat usko Pinky." (don’t scare him, pinky) "Dara hua hi lag raha hai. Ab darr kis se raha hai yeh nahi pata." (well he does look scared, of what I don’t know) ~ "Your cousin was scaring the kid." "Who? Pinky? Everyone's scared of her. Maybe she thinks he's cute. Kids are weird like that." YN whispered to Nat as she squatted, adjusting the pleats of Natasha's sari. She looked stunning and perhaps even more of YN's small army of cousins would ask her out. Her answering glare was always scary to them, and amusing to YN. “This reminds me of last new year’s. I distinctly remember you dancing.” "Well, that was too much vodka. Involuntary. I plead not guilty." She smiled down at YN. "And I suppose you're going to set the stage on fire? Steve's going to have the time of his life watching you." "Could you maybe shut up about that?" "Self denial is going to get you nowhere." "She's right Di." Pinky snidely remarked as she sat up. "And no, the...well he's technically not a kid, Bucky said he's my age." "Perfect, date him. You'll get a job at Stark Industries, pakka. (for sure)" "Stop discussing my non existent relationship, please. Poor jija was red today by the time he came back with all the chachas*. Bet you missed him during your afternoon nap, with how you were cuddling me with a death grip. I'm not your bloody mattress." "Well, Pinky, when you get used to fuckin 6'4 Captain America as your mattress, nothing quite compares, eh, YN?" Nat teased her. "You two gremlins should've never met. Natasha, sit down and stop making stuff up. I've never, erm, used him as a mattress." "Oh was he on top then?" Pinky asked, smirking. At YN's gasp she rolled her eyes. "I study the human body, didi, have some respect for the profession." "Tum bio wale sachhi mei tharki hote ho."* (you bio people are really horny)* ~
“Shit.” YN draped the saree around her shoulder but the pleats looked awkward. An emergency call from the states had delayed her getting ready. The cocktail party was probably held for the benefit of her foreign friends. Or maybe her cousins just wanted an excuse to drink. Pinky and Nat had both wandered off, Pinky promising her tons of alcohol in exchange for all the stares. “YN?” Steve asked as he stood in the doorway, eyes widening and jaw nearly dropping to the floor at how gorgeous he looked. “Yeah?” “Nat and the others were-uh, they were asking for you…” “Yeah, had a call from Tony, he was asking how it was going. Could you, uhm, help me with these pleats? I’d ask Pinky but she disappeared…” “Yeah, uh, what do you want me to do?” “Just-just bend and pull on them, lightly. Don’t do it too hard.” “Like that?” he gently tugged, aligning the pleats. She turned once in the mirror. “Yeah, perfect.” It struck them both at the same time how awkward their current predicament was. He stood up blushing scarlett and she smiled and looked away. She’d never worn a saree in front of him, he’d only ever seen some old photos on her instagram from her college farewell. The tiny sliver of skin she had exposed at the waist and the mostly backless blouse drove him crazy. Resisting the impulse to run a finger along her waist, he coughed instead. She took no notice, busy trying to perfect herr winged eyeliner. Swiping some nude gloss and some pearl drop earrings to complement the cream of her saree, she pulled some curls out from her updo. “Come on then.” he offered her his arm as they set off for the gardens. ~ “You seem to be enjoying enormously, fake boyfriend and all.” Nat smirked as YN offered her a glass of champagne. “Oh shush.” “You do remember the last time you got drunk? Nat didi told me. No repeat performances, please. Your mother would kill us all.” “Nat! Stop spreading lies!” “So you didn’t sleep with him? You’re the real fattu, YN” “Now who taught you that?” “You talk in your sleep. And Pinky dearest was ready to translate.” “You two need to stay away. Pinky, you nerd, don’t you have anything to study? Or maybe even taado (check out)” “Oh so you’re crushing on spider-boy? How cute, YN’s softened them up with Steve, swoop in and take advantage.” “Spare me, please. Goras* aren’t really my type.” ~ She slipped and almost fell on the stairs she was climbing to her room. Steve, coming up from behind, caught her. Pinky had told him to drop her off to bed after YN and Nat both did a series of unending shots, horrifying the rest of the cousins. The elders were off to offer prayers in some temple in their ancestral village and the young ones were busy partying. She giggled like a teenager as she gazed up at him. “Kiss me, Steve.” “Not now. Not when you’re drunk and…” “You can’t get drunk, and when I’m sober even then you’re too scared to admit anything. Is there really nothing between us, Steve?” she sniffed. “Let me get you to bed, YN.” Pinky, coming up the stairs after putting a very drunk Natasha to bed, paused and retreated, smiling. “Sach toh yeh hai, fatti hai teri. Haath se bandi nikal jayegi, tab rona baithke.” (the truth is, it scares you. When the girl is gone, then you’ll sit and cry.) She punched his chest once and fainted in a drunk stupor. He picked her up bridal style and climbed up the rest of the way, gently placing her on the bed and kissing her cheek. Coming down, he almost bumped into Pinky, who smiled at him and wished him good night. ~ “Hey bhagwaan, my head hurts.” “Mmmm, with amount of vodka you and nat guzzled last night, I almost didn’t expect you to wake up.” She frowned at Sam over a cup of coffee. "I'm very hungover, Sam, I won't hesitate to kill." "Ooh, I'm so scared." "In all the excitement of YN's cousin's wedding, have you lot forgotten what you were sent to do?" Fury's voice crackled over the phone in YN's hand. "Paperwork and permits are a bitch. And we can't technically take them in if all they have is chloroform." "Then do another raid at night. Take him in, we'll slap on a record or two." "That'll take time to plan. And also, more paperwork." "Jesus, I'll ask Richardson to tackle all that. The 3 of them and the spiderkid will be enough for a minor takedown I suppose." "Tell him to hurry, then. We'll do the strike in 3 days." ~ "We get in, we detain him, S.H.I.E.L.D swoops in and takes care of the mess. He's got enough violations to keep him in local jail while the rest of the world fights over who gets to keep him." "This dude is fucked up. He's a weapons manufacturer from Tony's days and even has HYDRA contacts. You sure we can take him?" Steve read his brief as the Avengers sat discussing the plan of attack. "If he continues using ancient shit to 'return the world to the glory and safety of the dark ages' then yeah, not a problem." Sam shrugged. "Why do I feel this is a trap we're walking into? How do we know he hasn't anything much more sinister planned?" Natasha rested her chin in her hands. "This isn't his turf; no one's going to set up death machines because he feels like it. Perhaps why he's using the 'setting up a business' excuse. I doubt he has anything much more severe." "Call for backup, YN-” “Didi? What are you doing here? Chalo! (let’s go!) They’re asking for you at the haldi!” Pinky grabbed YN by the arm. “Aapka mehendi ke liye lehenga bhi alter hoke aagaya, lene kon jayege usse? Chalo, chalo!” (Your lehenga for the mehendi ceremony has come back from being altered, who’s going to pick it up? Come on, let’s go!) ~ She affectionately rubbed the turmeric paste on Rahul’s forehead as he frowned. Giggling, she handed off the plate to Shweta, Rahul’s twin. She and Pinky walked off as the others took over to join in the haldi*. “We do miss you when you’re not around, you know,” Pinky bumped YN with her shoulder. “You insist on living so far away.” “Pinks, I don’t know. It always felt like I chased dreams that for others were too…” “Too big for us simple people?” “You know I don’t mean it like that…” YN frowned at her phone incessantly ringing. “Oh, it's probably the dude from the Ministry, foreign missions are always so iffy- Hello?” “Agent L/N, it's been a long time…” The voice on the other end chuckled as YN immediately recognized the figure walking towards her. She shrieked, “AARUSH! Kutte! (you dog!) You could’ve told me!” “Wanted to surprise you, and I heard Rahul was getting married. Couldn’t believe, only yesterday he was yelling his head off about how he had passed the JEE. And look at you, you’ve…” “I’ll leave you two to catch up.” Pinky grinned as she took off. ~ “So that’s the dude that’s our site rep?” Steve narrowed his eyes at the two people hugging and chatting on the lawn. “Yes, Fury sent a mail. And he seems to be exceptionally close to our favourite agent.” Natasha smiled at Steve desperately attempting to keep a neutral face. “Yes, he’s her ex. They both joined the army together, before that they were classmates.” Pinky put down the sweets she was carrying, joining Steve and Natasha on the verandah. “We always thought they’d end up together. The Patels have been neighbours for ages. But YN never wanted anything to hold her down, I suppose.” “Hmm.” Nat and Pinky both eyed each other, the red head raising her eyebrows and the other just shrugging. Later, as they stood gossiping over chai and biscuits in the middle of the night, Pinky told her all about YN’s once boyfriend. “In Hindi, the word for jealousy is the same as burning, and I’d say we saw a pretty big flame today.” “They’ve been like that for ages. I thought after last new year's they would at least take a step forward, but it seems they want to play around. Speaking of which,” Nat followed Pinky’s gaze towards Peter sleeping on the living room sofa, the rest of YN’s younger cousins sleeping on the floor, “Don’t go the same path as your sister. If there is something that can be pursued down that avenue…” “And what about when he goes back? And the fact I have a whole life here, unlike YN didi who gave it all up at a moment’s notice. Not that I blame her, family is always complicated.” “I came here for a mission but apparently I’m the relationship therapist now. Thanks for the tea, I’ll check in on Steve and his poor heart.” “Oh, poor Jiju*.” ~ Glossary: *Sangeet: a ceremony with tons of dancing, Idk man it doesn’t happen in weddings in West Bengal, which is where I’m from *Chacha: younger brother of one’s father *Chachas: the plural of chacha *The horse thing; In Hindu weddings traditionally the groom arrives on horseback, this just displays how eager the aunties are to get one of their daughters married to bucky *The bio thing: the context for this is pretty confusing asgdhfk basically in your senior year you have to opt for one out of three main streams: Science, Commerce or Humanities. Science has 2 compulsory subjects: physics and chemistry and you choose between biology or maths. The people with maths often consider the ones with bio as, well horny basically because we study reproduction and such (blatant lies, maths people are always hornier) *Goras- a pretty rude-ish word for a foreigner, particularly one that’s light skinned *Haldi- a ceremony where turmeric paste is rubbed on the bride’s and groom’s bodies, the reason behind it is possibly cosmetic *Jiju-abbreviated form of jija, i.e. sister’s husband
This is my hc for YN’s cocktail party saree and this is what a kurta looks like

3.Draping a saree is always a good option – If you know how to drape a saree, you know how easy it is to look elegant in five-meter cloth. Just go with your body type. If you are thin then select silk or cotton saree or else go for chiffon, crepe, or georgette. Sarees are evergreen and definitely go with the office environment.
4.Mix-match kurtis and take care of the blouse designs – You know you can wear Kurtis with jeans and give yourself a funky look with the right accessories like jhumkis and jutis. Also, if you are going to the office then you may definitely want to ditch those backless blouses because they get you dressed up for a party.
5.Accessories – It is your office, you cannot definitely just wear clothes and leave. A few accessories complete your look and set a benchmark for other ladies. This is easier. Get yourself some pair of junk jewellery, colourful earrings, and those dazzling jutis or classy heels.
It is not the cloth but the choice of clothing that can make you look classy or old fashioned. If you know your body type and if you follow the looks of celebrities then you surely know how to slay in ethnic wear.

Mouni is very spiritual, and she firmly believes in Bhagavad Gita and spiritual chants. Therefore, her veil engraving was very personal to her and made her bridal Lehenga or bridal saree according to it. She wore a double Dupatta. One of them was neatly placed on her head as a veil. Also, the hem of her veil was stabbed with "Aayushmati Bhava," much like Deepika Padukone and Patra Leka Paul's wedding Dupatta. They have also chosen the Sabyasachi lehenga for their wedding. A gorgeous ensemble of porky and emerald jewelry completes her look. All her wedding functions were blooming color tuned, but fans couldn't stop praising the bride who looked great in red Lehenga with gold details during the Bengal wedding. Her Dupatta was the biggest highlight of her stunning outfit. The actress embraced and wore a slightly longer necklace for the wedding. Renee Cosmetics founder Aashka Goradia, Raindrop Media founder and director Rohini Iyer, and Roy's best friend choreographer Rahul Shetty attended the wedding. A refreshing pool party was on the agenda, and the newlyweds were sunbathing while mixing with their friends. In a blue and white print combo set, Mouni walked around the poolside with Suraj, and Suraj kept it simple with his shirt and pants. After a casual pool party, the glamor level went up in Sangeet, and Mouni showed off her move in the glamorous gold Lehenga. It contrasted to Suraj's outfit, which consisted of a rich blue Bandagara and matching pants. Sangeet witnesses everyone having a good time dancing to their favorite tracks featuring a large dance floor supported by LED screens. Mouni Roy has kept her look different from the other brides. She has chosen bright colors wedding outfits rather than going pastels. Her Bengali wedding has a red-colored lehenga look inspired by the famous actress Deepika Padukone. What is the traditional clothing in your country?
4 Types of Indian Women's Clothing
While fashion is making its way around the world, India can not lose. When traveling to India, the Land of Color and Wonder, the first thing tourists will notice is their sense of fashion. Women most especially, have a unique way to express their fashion sense and that is through the different types of dresses they wear.
We may think that all dresses Indian women wear are all the same, and the only difference we see is the patterns and colors they use; think again. To give you an idea of what our main topic is about, here are the 4 types of Indian women's clothing:
Kurti or Kurta
This type of Indian women's dress is simply a long shirt or blouse that is knee-length and sometimes worn for formal occasions. The Kurti or kurta is also good for daily use or is worn as office wear and at times, Indian women pair their kurta with a dupatta (Indian scarf).
While at other times, the Kurti is paired with salwar pants (pants that are wide at the thighs and tight at the ankles) or churidar pants which are commonly slimmer on the legs, like leggings or even jeans.
Salwar Kameez
This type of dress is mostly worn in the Northern parts of India like Haryana, Pradesh, Punjab, and Himachal. The dress includes the salwar and a kameez (long shirt or tunic). In the southern part of India, this style is named the "Punjabi suit" or "shalwar". The salwar kameez is commonly worn by teenagers and Bollywood actresses alike.
Salwar kameez is oftentimes paired with a dupatta — a traditional Indian scarf used to cover the head and the shoulders but now used as part of fashion.
Lehenga Choli or Ghagra Choli
Another traditional dress was commonly worn in the Northern part of India like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh.
Lehenga is a long skirt that is embroidered and pleated. Choli, on the other hand, is a midriff-baring blouse also worn with a sari. Together, the Lehenga Choli is made with a top that is a perfect fit to the body, have short sleeves and a low neck. Then finished off with a dupatta, which is inserted into the skirt and wrapped at the waist then draped over the shoulder similar to a sari.
Sari or Saree
Saree or sari is a long unsewn cloth with patterns, usually draped over the body. If rice is the staple food to some countries, then the saree is like the staple dress to most Indian women.
The draping style of the sari differs in some areas around India, but the most common way is simply by wrapping the fabric around the waist on one end and let the other settle on the shoulder. A saree's blouse is particularly backless with a halter-style string drape.
Indian fashion never ceases to surprise tourists and fashionistas alike, creativity is present in each type of dress Indian women wear as mentioned above and as seen on the sample pictures attached. Every detail, pattern, and color used to make an attractive Indian dress is given importance. So, the next time you visit India, make sure to ask for the right dress when you want to wear one!
